And it’s the first time Tatum has stepped behind the camera, co-directing the picture with his longtime producing partner Reid Carolin. The MGM Studios and United Artists Releasing movie is a personal story for Tatum on several fronts it was inspired by the death of Lulu, his beloved pit bull-Catahoula mix, from cancer in 2018. In addition to the 2015 sequel, “Magic Mike XXL,” the franchise has spawned an HBO Max reality series, “Finding Magic Mike,” and a cabaret show, “Magic Mike Live,” both of which were made through Tatum’s production company, Free Association.
